Sustainable Housing Webinar Series Aims to Build Knowledge Across Ireland’s Housing Sector
Five-part Housing Agency programme to explore retrofit, MMC, biodiversity, passive housing and tackling energy deprivation

The Housing Agency is encouraging housing professionals, policymakers, local authorities, approved housing bodies, developers and built environment practitioners to participate in a new five-part webinar series focused on sustainability in housing and the built environment.
The Sustainable Housing Webinar Series forms part of the Agency’s expanding sustainability agenda and supports the implementation of its Sustainability Strategy 2025–2029. The programme is designed to promote knowledge sharing, showcase research and best practice, and strengthen engagement across the housing sector as Ireland works towards its climate and housing objectives.
Sustainability is now a central consideration in housing policy, spanning issues such as construction emissions, energy efficiency, retrofit, biodiversity, climate resilience and whole-life carbon. With Ireland facing significant housing delivery challenges while also seeking to meet legally binding climate targets, the Housing Agency says improving understanding of sustainable housing solutions has become increasingly important.
The webinar series will examine key themes including the decarbonisation of the housing stock, addressing energy poverty, promoting resource efficiency and supporting climate adaptation. It will also highlight emerging research and practical examples of sustainable housing delivery.
The first webinar, Research on Sustainable Housing: Addressing Energy Deprivation and Net Zero Goals, will take place on Tuesday 23 June 2026. It will explore how housing policy and research can support both social and environmental objectives, including reducing energy poverty while progressing towards net-zero emissions targets.
A second webinar, Research on Innovation in Housing: MMC and Biodiversity, scheduled for Tuesday 14 July 2026, will examine the role of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and biodiversity measures in delivering more sustainable residential development.
Later sessions in the series will focus on futureproofing homes through policy, retrofitting and innovation, lessons from Kildare’s Demohouse project, and the delivery of passive housing from concept through to completion.
The programme comes at a time when the housing sector is under increasing pressure to deliver more homes while reducing carbon emissions and improving environmental performance. Industry experts have consistently identified knowledge sharing and collaboration as critical factors in accelerating the adoption of sustainable construction practices and retrofit solutions.
The Housing Agency is inviting interested participants to register for individual webinars through its website. Attendance is expected to be of particular interest to housing professionals, planners, architects, engineers, local authority staff, policymakers and others involved in shaping Ireland’s built environment.
