Sunday Property Round-Up 26th October 2025

Weekly Irish property market news and insights – for the industry, by the industry

Message from Carol Tallon:

The big story of the weekend is the election of Catherine Connolly as Ireland’s 10th President, which has understandably quietened the usual flow of industry updates.

Still, the data keeps coming – and it tells a story worth watching. The latest CSO figures show a modest uplift in new home completions for the year to date, at 24,325 – up 13%. Yet, beneath that headline, there’s a note of caution: completions actually stalled in the last quarter, slipping 4% since Q2.

Elsewhere, thank you Linda Daly in the Sunday Times for tackling one of the toughest realities facing our sector right now: the fragility of Ireland’s offsite and modular manufacturing base. Following the announcement of MHI’s factory closure last week, the paper spoke to John Fleming in the UK and a number of Irish manufacturers (many of whom trace their early experiences back to Fleming)  to ask the very fair question: “Where are all Ireland’s factory-built homes?” Just a handful of homes were assembled off-site last year – despite their clear potential to save time, cut costs, and accelerate delivery. It’s a vulnerable moment for the offsite sector, so thank you to everyone who contributed to this important story.

Over the past fortnight, we’ve also seen the real impact of the CIF’s Construction Safety Campaign 2025, as Ireland’s leading contractors hosted supply-chain events and facilitated some difficult – but essential – conversations. Sean Downey, Director of Safety, Education & Training, visited some of the country’s most generationally significant sites to speak directly with teams on the ground. You’ll find links to the full audio and video playlists within this edition.

And finally, a word of congratulations to the BurrenBeo team for another outstanding Winterage Weekend, reminding us that sustainable rural living isn’t about excluding people from the land – it’s about finding ways to live and farm in harmony with nature. It is a mission of this team to facilitate the blending of generational wisdom with emerging technologies to ensure a liveable, resilient future for rural Ireland. Policy needs to reflect and support that.
