Second John Behan Memorial Cycle takes place in Connemara

Club Rothaiochta Chonamara, sponsored by PLACEengage, is hosting the second annual John Behan Memorial Cycle starting in Carraroe on Saturday, September 16th

The team at PLACEengage are delighted to sponsor the second annual John Behan Memorial Cycle, hosted by Club Rothaiochta Chonamara. Scheduled for September 16, 2023. This day of cycling is bound to be to be a day filled with camaraderie, and remembrance in honour of the late John Behan.

John Behan, a Kildare man, married a Carraroe lady and fell in love with the community of Carraroe. During his time in the West, John joined Club Rothaiochta Chonamara and organised many cycles for charities and group cycles, including Arklow to Achill, Bundoran to Carraroe and Mizen to Malin. He sadly passed away in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of dedication for cycling.

Cyclists from over Ireland will gather at An Chistin, An Cheathru Rua on Saturday the 16th, with sign-in beginning at 9:00am. Participants can choose between two routes: a challenging 110 km route or a (slightly!) more relaxing 65 km route. Both routes start at 10:00 AM, giving cyclists the opportunity to explore the wild Atlantic views of Connemara.

A highlight of the John Behan Memorial Cycle is the food stop along the route in Coynes, Kilkieran, making sure that cyclists stay energised. After completing their route, riders will get to enjoy well-deserved refreshments back at An Chistin!

As a community engagement platform for public consultation, PLACEengage is committed to supporting community activities that promote engagement, physical well-being, and the celebration of local traditions.
