For this weeks’ show, Property Matters’ host Carol Tallon is joined in studio by newly appointed Managing Director of Lisney David Byrne, Director of TA Group Thomas Campbell and Customer Success Manager of UtilityAR Patrick Liddy.
First up in studio with us was David Byrne. As newly appointed managing director of Lisney, David discusses key aspects of the recently published Lisney Outlook for 2020. This includes forecasts of how various industry sectors are expected to perform over the coming year, including commercial, offices, investment and residential markets. David moves on to speak about the sustainability agenda and how it will continue to be in focus and how it is likely to impact the property industry. He also provides listeners with an overview of the nZEB or Near Energy Zero Building regulations (31st December 2020). This means that all new building completions will now have to reach a certain standard, which should result in high energy performance in buildings as standard. This will inevitably push up building costs, which will likely impact prospective purchasers and end-occupants of both residential and commercial properties.
Thomas Campbell, Director of TA Group, was next to join Carol in studio. Thomas begins his interview by giving us an overview of the TA Group and current projects. He explains the importance of the role of assigned certifier within the TA Group i.e. maintaining building control, building compliance and certification, fire safety and engineering and the Deep retrofit pilot project. He talks to us about the group’s ambitions for 2020, including delivery of the first nZEB rated homes in Mayo. This particular project was secured by TA Group, architecturally and structurally designed by TA Group and also will be managed and constructed by TA Group. He provides Carol with a quick run through of the costs of delivery of homes versus the cost of construction and quantifies the potential savings to homebuyers of a VAT moratorium for the building industry.
Our final guest this week was Patrick Liddy, Customer Success Manager at UtilityAR. Patrick introduces UtilityAR and sets out potential use cases across the built environment. He explains to our listeners what exactly Augmented Reality is and the functions of AR glasses on site and for property and building maintenance. He examines what effects AR will have on the industry more generally. Finally, Patrick talks Carol through the products the UtilityAR are working/have been working on..
