In the Property Matters studio this week, we are joined by CEO of IPAV Pat Davitt, National Sales Manager of TopCon Positioning Ireland, Karol Friel and CEO of Property Button, Jim Urell.

First up in studio with us was Pat Davitt. As CEO of IPAV, Pat discusses the organisation’s take on the Central Bank macro-prudential rules (which differs from many other industry groups). The discussion moves on to changing homeownership trends and the renting of properties into retirement. Other topics discussed include the extension of RPZs (Rent Pressure Zones) in 2019 and policy making.  The IPAV chief expressed his frustration that the organisation has (for the past seven years) been calling for a property council of experts to meet and advise the government on the market twice yearly. An advisory body of this nature could ensure continuity across political party changes etc.

Karol Friel, National Sales Manager at TopCon Positioning Ireland, was next to join Carol and Bryan in studio. Karol begins his interview by giving us an overview of the TopCon and an interesting project they are currently involved in with Terenure College Secondary School project. They are one of the first companies in Ireland to collaborate on a project of this calibre, COYO (Class Of Your Own) for transition year students. He explains the educational work they do with TU Dublin, their Internship in TopCon US, their Award sponsorships. He talks to us about the upskilling courses they hold for the industry, basic instructions to setting out, etc. Karol provides Carol with a quick run through their new GTL 1000 verification tool, now nominated in the Digital Innovation category at the 2020 ICE Awards. He closes out his interview by discussing the machine control technology in the housing market.

Our final guest this week was Jim Urell, CEO of Property Button. Jim re-introduces Property Button and explains exactly how Property Button helps estate agents with utility switchovers. For many estates agents around Ireland, this is an important first step on the digital transformation journey.  He also talks about the company’s offering for construction contractors, again coordinating with utility providers to ensure smooth services of development sites across Ireland. When talking about innovation goals for the year, Jim gives an overview of the new tenant profile offering  that helps property managers and would-be tenants get to know each other quickly in order to ensure the right tenant gets the right property quickly and efficiently. Finally, Jim shares some exciting expansion news for the business as the proptech company explores market opportunities in The Netherlands.
