For our first show of the decade, Property Matters’ host Carol Tallon invites Barry Cull, AIB’s Head of Homes in South Dublin; David Rouse, Multi-Units Development Advisor for the Housing Agency and John Egan, CEO of Bim Launcher to discuss mortgages, owners’ management companies and construction technologies for 2020.
First up in studio with us was Barry Cull. As Head of Homes in South Dublin for AIB, Barry discusses how to get started when thinking of buying your first home, tips on applying for mortgages, getting mortgage ready. He also talked us through what banks look for when approving people for mortgages, what exactly they like to see. Barry discusses the various kinds of rates, also, the difference between fixed and variable rates. Towards the end of the interview, he examines the impact of technology on the journey to obtaining a mortgage and gives his final advice to anyone going through this seemingly endless process.
David Rouse, multi-units development advisor for the Housing Agency, was next to join Carol in studio. David begins his interview by explaining what exactly the Housing Agency is and what the primary functions are. He tells us about a series of free training events for volunteer directors of owners’ management companies that will be hosted by the Agency. He explains to us the importance of these events, the background of apartment OMCs, the role of the volunteer directors and things that they need to be aware of. He provides Carol with a quick run through of the schedule and format (content, presentation, running order, etc.) for these events before concluding the interview.
Our final guest of the show was John Egan, CEO of Bim Launcher. To open his interview John speaks to us about what specifically BimLauncher is and how it works. Discussing current manual data exchanged methods between common data environment, John points out that this is inefficient and costly, telling our listeners that that CDE vendors currently face technical challenges attempting to develop new sustainable integrations. He examines other challenges, not unlike the data exchange method, for example query languages and patterns that damage this seamless flow of information and often change on a project and customer basis. To finish off his interview, John calls for a discussion on what the industry can do to stop using valuable project human resources as a proxy for orchestrating project data.
