- International sovereign wealth funds are set to spend close to €1bn on Irish property investments this year. The acquisitions will account for almost a third of the €3bn in property deals expected in 2026. GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, has been involved in the biggest deal of the year to date. Meanwhile, Norway’s Norges Bank Investment Management, which manages the world’s largest fund of its kind, is preparing to enter the sector here with the purchase of homes in south Dublin. https://www.thetimes.com/world/ireland-world/article/norges-bank-investment-management-gic-realty-ireland-property-investments-acquisitions-flmn627h8

However, the number of second-hand homes for sale remains around half pre-pandemic levels https://ipropertyradio.com/house-price-inflation-slows-to-3-as-stock-rises-and-buyers-gain-more-breathing-room/

- Conveyancing delays leaving thousands of homebuyers in six-month legal limbo: New laws are expected to be brought through the Dáil in the coming months requiring completed documents to be made available before a home is put on the market. Experts say this would reduce delays and could see some sales completed in weeks rather than months https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/conveyancing-delays-leaving-thousands-of-homebuyers-in-six-month-legal-limbo/a/162363029.html

- How this Wicklow golf course became a battleground in the government’s push for rezoned land: ‘…it can be logical for a developer to weigh up the sites in front of them, and avoid the “more expensive and more viably challenged development if you have an easier win”, potentially making the Charlesland golf course a better fit given its central location…’ https://www.thejournal.ie/wicklow-housing-7178026-Oct2026/
- Over 70,000 take to the streets in Spain to protest housing crisis: The government introduced the measures after nationwide protests following the eviction on a stretcher of an 87-year-old woman. https://www.thejournal.ie/spain-housing-protests-7181430-Oct2026/

🇪🇺 Week 14 of 26: Placemaking in the Garden County – Place Engage comes home to County Wicklow
County Wicklow – my birth county – the second-most expensive county in the State, and the week I have been most curious about and most wary of, in equal measure. It is easy to look at the place you come from and see only what used to be there.
What the published record shows is a county starting far more homes than it is finishing, in a market where only 65 homes were available to rent long-term on the day we looked. The question that followed me from Bray to Baltinglass was whether the schools, roads and services will arrive with those homes.
· 155,851 people, up 9% since 2016
· only 35% born in the county, third-lowest in the State
· average age 39.1, over-65s up 27%
· median house price €480,000 (23% above national, 2nd of 26)
· new-tenancy rent €1,888, second only to Dublin
· 198 completions last quarter, fewest in the Mid-East
· 956 homes commenced January–July
· residential vacancy 2.4% · 545 homes for sale, 65 to rent long-term, 624 entire homes on Airbnb

- Hard lessons of Dublin Docklands vital in guiding Cork city plans: “Deep regrets” about how the project materialised. It has been 30 years since the Dublin Docklands master plan was published. Back then, the idea was for local communities to be central beneficiaries of regeneration. Somewhere along the way, commercial interests took over, and the social agenda was set aside.
